When traveling to St. Thomas and St. John you will be surprised to find that Verizon’s reliable network no longer applies when you get to the islands. In fact, the national carrier that has by far the best coverage on St. John is AT&T. Below is a breakdown of each of the 3 largest U.S. networks and how they fair on St. John. Verizon:Assuming you have a "Global phone" such as an iPhone, just call Verizon before you go and have them sign you up temporary for the Global plan and you won't have to worry about using BVI towers by accident. Cheap and easy. Texts are free (or the same as your plan at home) but you can't attached a photo to them.The only difference is that Verizon doesn't have it's own cell towers. They have a contract with local carriers to use it's towers. No more $1.79 per minute or lack of data using your phone to send text pictures or surf the internet. Unfortunately the service is only 3G so it's slower then what most of us are use to.
