The transmission started making a clunking noise (kind of shakes when you put into drive) when I was driving at 50 km in town and was slowing down. Till then it there had been no problems. CD4E transmission problem. Escape XLT V6 2001 with 81,000 miles. Had the PCM recall performed three weeks ago. Had the transmission fluid changed and serviced 8 months ago. Recently noticed reduced power and flashing OD light. There was a sensation of not shifting into the next higher gear. and trouble climbing up small hills.CD4E transmission problem. While traveling 80mph on the interstate, my 2011 Ford Escape with 27000 miles suddenly lost power as a wrench indicator light came on the dashboard. The gas pedal would not accelerate to pull onto shoulder or to move around traffic. All fuel acceleration was lost. I had a similar problem with my 2018 Escape - while accelerating I would hear a shutter and when I turn I would hear the same shutter. It was primarily on the rear driver side. I turned out to be a defective rear shock. My Ford Dealer replaced that shock and that corrected the problem. It happened around 21,000 miles and still under warranty.10 Vehicle Shudder problem. This^^^^ plus, a transmission shudder (if it is the actual trans) can be attributed to fluid that needs to be replaced, a TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) solenoid going bad, or the TCC valve on the valve body wearing out. The easiest is, when was the last time the trans fluid was changed? The engine began to shake when I put it into gear with my foot on the brake. Transmission shop said it was the torque converter. Spent $5,000 to rebuild transmission. Still shakes. The engine idles high. When taken out of gear, after a few seconds, the idle drops to about 800 RPM. Transmission shop said it is a vacuum problem they cannot find.
