Its a S1 square drive deck screw. Screwed into a paint brush handle and then superglued. Worked perfectly on my recon. One way to check on this is to set the engine to TDC, then set the clearance for .006" like you have been doing, then turn the engine over slowly by hand a little each way. 'Lashing' the valves is not actually a performed process. Valve lash is a small gap between the valve train components. It allows the metal parts to expand as they warm up without moving the valves. When the camshaft moves the lifter, it must take up the lash before the valve actually moves. ….

I have loosened the bolts on the bottom of the bearing carrier but can not get it to move forward or backwards. Reading this out of a clymer manual. The engines that I adjust I set the clearance at .026" I and .028" E set at operating temp. (big american V8's). I burn my hands less on my wheeler.
