I dropped the cylinder and piston off at the machine shop and said i want the clearance between .002" and .0025". The 300, is quite a bit more work. And I tried every scenario possible with jetting the carb and it all came back to how the big red is set up. I even tried a 300 carb with jets from a 96 and then jetting to the way an 88-91 is jetted and I couldn't believe how weak my big red had become.The 416 is the safe big bore. The 426 can be just as safe if you purchase a sleeve from LA sleeve and have the jug bored for the bigger sleeve. No matter what bore you go with you will need bigger and stronger head studs. Rejetting won't be absolutely necessary but it's cheap and will wake it up. But you'll still have poor suspension, average brakes, etc. To make it even decently quick overall won't be cheap.
