Mathews have always been a little lighter but top heavy and the Z7 was no exception, but better than bows of the past. Hoyt always seems to have a better balance and general feel and they finally got the weight down. Both bows were set up vitually the same, maxed at 60 lbs and 28" draw.If you are looking at Mathews or Hoyt then buy a 2022. The upgrade from 22-23 wasn't worth a damn for those two companies and any half decent shop with any 22 bows hanging will be taking $200 or so off the MSRP to help make room for newer models. Hoyt and Mathews make a very good bow and between the 2 I would take a Hoyt. But if your open to other brands look at Athens Archery. I have shot a bunch of different bows in the past 3-4 years before shooting an Athens 2 years ago and will only be buying there bows from now on. Currently, the lightest bow in the market is a Hoyt bow. The Hoyt Fireshot is the lightest bow with a weight of only three pounds. It's a hybrid target shooting and hunting compound bow. It is only followed by the Mathews Stoke which weighs 3.78 pounds which is only a half quarter heavier than the Hoyt Fireshot.
I'm not anti-PSE or Mathews/Prime/Bowtech. They make good bows as well I just prefer the feel of Hoyt and Elite Target bows. Tunability is hands down better with the Elite. I really have no real experience with the Bear, but the new Motive 6 and 7 look very interesting. If I were in the market for a new bow I would try the Motive. You could probably ask the Bowtech people, but a guess is they use IBO, which is far more "open ended" when it comes to making speed statements for any bow. Clocking Bowtech's for friends, they are fast, but not any faster lb for lb than my Hoyt's. Same for Matthews.
