I'm 21 days sober from polysubstance abuse (benzodiazepines, alcohol and many years ago, opiates). My younger brother didn't survive his due to being ran over by a train from train hopping, but secondarily due to drugs and alcohol. One second at a time, one hour at a time, one day at a time, etc. Physical addiction takes a lot of practicing to finally take hold. Until that point you'll continue to spend years placating your worry about your drinking with the fall back reassurance of " I can stop anytime I want ". Until there comes a day that you can't. That day happens sooner or later if we continue to drink.
