J frame serial number confusion. I recently had a brief look at what I think is a Model 36, although I did not see a model designation. The grips appear to be original to the gun, the right panel is stamped with the s/n, but it is stamped 9XX Y. and the J is there, but not in line with the rest of the s/n.
