My decision is based on cost to upgrade the outdated MM efi vs. cost and upkeep of a carb. If I were to upgrade the efi it would cost in the neighborhood of $2,000 or more. I can change to a carb for under $1,000.

Most older Harley engines with carburetors have ignitions with two ignition map curves. Plugging the vacuum should be all that's needed. I can't remember if the same hole on the carb goes to the VOES or not. Use the barb that fits the hole you drill .It Doesnt have to be threaded if not you can press or tap it in using a little JB weld .Any rubber hose or tubing that fits will work fine.It is not high pressure.From Dyna: Most stock or mildly modified Harleys will benefit from the use of the VOES. The way the system works is; at part throttle or cruising speeds, when engine vacuum is high, the switch is closed and the ignition is at full advance by 1500 RPM. This results in increased fuel economy and improved part throttle drivability.7- Mount the VOES switch as close to the carburetor as possible using the included bracket. Note: There is no polarity on the VOES so either wire can be used for ground or signal. 8- Connect the VOES hose from the switch to the nipple in the manifold. Some add more advance with it grounded, some bring it in a lot faster with the wire grounded, some do both.
